How do I limit the access for a certain FTP user? (permissions & home directory)

If several different people use FTP to connect to different hosts under the same hosting account, you will want to limit their access accordingly. Please note you can only limit access to the accounts you have created yourself – the default root accounts cannot be customized.

You can limit the access from your control panel, following the steps below.

To change the directory the user has access to, do the following:

  1. Log in your My.Easyhost.be hosting control panel (https://my.easyhost.be/en).

  2. At the top follow 'My Products' > 'Web hosting'.

  3. In the table you will see your hosts. Click on 'Hosting details' for the host you need to limit access to.

  4. Click on 'FTP users' to your left.

    Click on 'FTP users'

  5. You will see a list of FTP accounts created for this host. The 'Linked To column' in the table shows the directory restriction of the FTP account. Click on 'Edit' to your right to change that.

  6. In the Home Directory section choose the Link 'To Another FTP Folder' radio button. In the text field put in the directory address the user has to work with. They will not be able to go to upper levels.

  7. Click on 'Edit FTP User' at the bottom to save your settings.

  8. Test via your FTP client.

If you want to restrict the access further you could change the permissions to 'Read Only'.

  9. In the Permissions section of the same editing screen change the radio button option from 'Write + Read permissions' to 'Read permissions'.
